Unveil the secrets of the Oscar statuette
Everyone knows that The Oscars are the Hollywood’s glitziest and most exclusive star-studded awards event but what you probably don’t know is that why the trophy is named as Oscar?
A popular story is that the Academy librarian and eventual executive director, Margaret Herrick thought it resembled her Uncle Oscar and then the Academy staff began referring to it as Oscar.
“The new statuette exemplifies impeccable craftsmanship and the enduring nature of art” said Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs.
So did the Oscar statuette really get a face-lift?
This year the iconic Oscar statuettes were 3D printed.
Each wax statuette is coated in a ceramic shell. The statuettes are then cast in liquid bronze at more than 1,800°F, cooled, and sanded to a mirror polish finish.
The figure portion of each Oscar is electroplated with a permanent layer of reflective 24-karat gold.
Here comes the finished gold plated Oscars.
